Russia’s Mobilization is a Mistake

Russia does not have enough young people to replenish their workforce and population. It’s been known for years. Mobilizing, even partially, and deploying untrained conscripts will only accelerate this. The West doesn’t want or need to destroy Russia, but Russia is doing it to themselves.
In 2009 the Aspen Institute wrote (PDF) about Russia depleting their population all by themselves. This year, 2022, was one of the last for Russia to have a military age population to mobilize. It’s possibly part of why they waged this war now.
However, killing even more of their own young people in war and now a mobilization means faster doom. It is economic doom on top of human cost. Even Russia’s horrifying abduction of Ukrainian kids won’t change this demographic guarantee.

Russia’s economy currently depends on revenue from energy exports. One possible reason Russia began war: to keep Ukraine from being able to have big business supplying Europe energy with what’s under invaded areas.
Forces of demographics may cripple Russia more than any economic loss allowing Ukrainian competition ever could.

Russia’s economy needs people to work in it, and they’re accelerating the loss of workforce by getting it killed in war and now mobilizing even more to die.
